Hong Kong - Youth Ambassadors Help IFACT-GC Fight BitTorrent Piracy

Eleven Youth Ambassadors Against Internet Piracy were praised for their enthusiastic support and outstanding contribution in helping curb online piracy activities. Secretary for Commerce & Economic Development Frederick Ma presented trophies to the eleven outstanding ambassadors at a ceremony to mark the Youth Ambassador of the Year at the Customs & Excise Training School on 16 February 2008.

The Youth Ambassador Against Internet Piracy Scheme (the Scheme) is assisting rights owners tackle internet piracy. Since its launch in 2006, youth ambassadors have reported 1,600 BitTorrent seeds involving suspected pirated copyright works to the Customs & Excise Department.

In 2007, 104 referrals from the Scheme related to MPA member company titles with 100% successful compliance. IFACT-GC arranged for the swift removal of all infringing seeds affecting those MPA member company titles by contacting by the webmasters of the BT discussion forums.
