On November 21, IFACT-GC and the Hong Kong Institute of Vocational Education (IVE) launched their second joint annual student IPR competition at a seminar attended by more than 90 students interested in entering the competition. The competition is also being supported by the Hong Kong Customs & Excise Department (HKC&E), the Intellectual Property Department (IPD), the Intellectual Property Rights Protection Alliance and the Motion Picture Association.
Mr. Sam Ho, IFACT-GC’s Executive Director and General Manager, opened the seminar with a briefing to potential participants about the competition. He was joined by a number of key figures from Hong Kong’s IPR sector who gave the students updated knowledge on current trends in copyright enforcement. VIPs attending included Mr. Peter Cheung, JP, the Deputy Director of the IPD, Mr. Tam Yiu-keung, Assistant Commissioner (Intelligence and Investigation) of the HKC&E, Ms. Sabrina Chan, Executive Director of The Hong Kong Association of the Pharmaceutical Industry, Mr. Derek Kwok, a well-known local film director and Mr. Sunny Cheng, Director of the Hong Kong Movie Production Executives Association.
The IPR competition is open to all higher education students in Hong Kong and will run from November 21, 2008 to May 29, 2009. There are two categories – video and T-shirt design – and entries will be judged on how successfully they promote IPR awareness in a creative and effective way. Entries will be judged by a panel of industry experts and the creator of the best video entry will earn two round trip air tickets Hong Kong – Tokyo to participate in a video “Champion” event. Other prizes, including movie ticket coupons and book vouchers, will be awarded to other meritorious entries. More information on the competition is available online at www.ifact-gc.org/IPRcompetition2008.
