Press Conference on Raid Against An Illicit Streaming Device Syndicate – JoyTV

(Taiwan) On 16 September 2021, the Telecommunication Police and IPR Police conducted joint operation against the JoyTV syndicate and arrested a 45-year-old male at his home in Xitun District, Taichung for further investigation. It was later found that the arrested man had computer software background. Police Officers seized the website <https://joytv.com.tw/>, JoyTV Boxes, computers and “Turbo” APP used to support the piracy activities.

On 27 September 2021, the Telecommunication Police of Criminal Investigation Bureau held a press conference and presented details of the foresaid raid. Police stated that the syndicate operated since October 2020 and received income from selling illicit ISDs (JoyTV Boxes) online and one-time subscription fees from customers at NT$2,500 - $5,000 or monthly subscription of NT$300 - $600 per subscriber.

It is estimated that the syndicate had sold around 1,200 JoyTV Boxes (ISDs) and received illegal income more than NT$ 1.5 million; causing damages of NT$100 million to the motion picture industry including our supporters. IFACT-GC will continue to support the authorities in the investigation and criminal proceedings against content thieves.
